And with this, my haunted house videos for 2023 are done. For now. There may be another one focusing on the Krampus event coming up on December 2nd, and maybe something about the horror-themed speakeasy, The Haunt, opening up later this month as well. But until then, this is it…

Pirate-Potter House video interview
Since 2001, the Selbys have been decorating their Des Moines house. Over the years, it has gotten famous (with TV news coverage) for themes such as Harry Potter and, this year, Mono-Chromatic Madness.
Haunted Garage video interview
There is a GREAT family-friendly (thought they can be scary if you want) home haunt in West Des Moines. We were blown away by how elaborate their 3-car garage haunt is. This year, they are themed like a ghost town. The level of detail is amazing. Check it out:
Living History Farms video
One of the best trick-or-treat traditions in the area is Living History Farms‘ annual Family Halloween. I’ve visited it a few times over the years (some friends of mine used to vend “sugar coated kettle popped corn” there, long ago). You can see some old photos over at my theme park photo site:

We visited it this past Sunday right as it opened. Here is a video montage of the trip:
Harry Potter meets PirateS?
The Harry Potter House is back for 2022. Located at 3720 Brook Ridge Ct in Des Moines, this house gets quite the themed overlay this time of year. Drive by and check out the large-size Hogwarts Express train poking out from the building, and see skeleton versions of your favorite Harry Potter characters in the yard. It’s quite the display!

Living History Farms Family Halloween added.
I just added an entry for the Living History Farms Family Halloween event. According to their website, this will be the 33rd year of this trick-or-treat adventure.
For those who haven’t been, it’s basically trick-or-treating through the historic village, and you get to take a wagon ride. In years I visited, there was also a storyteller and popcorn. It’s neat seeing the town at night.
